After being awarded a last minute wildcard into the Heineken tennis Open in Auckland, he's now drawn a qualifier as his first round opponent.
If he wins through, he faces a potential meeting against 2012 star and fifth seed Jerzy Janowicz in the second round.
Wildcard Olivier Rochus will meet world number 50 Albert Ramos and seventh seed Martin Klizan will take on Belgian world number 63 Xavier Malisse.
The top four seeds have first round byes.
