American third seed Robby Ginepri was bundled out in the first round of the Heineken Open tennis tournament in Auckland today.
Spain's Alberto Martin beat the 2005 US Open semifinalist and world No 16 7-6 (7-1) 3-6 6-2.
Martin, ranked at No 49, ran down every shot and forced errors from Ginepri in hot conditions.
The match was the first in the tournament to go to three sets.
"I think it was a good match to have confidence for the next match and the Australian Open," Martin said.
Martin faces Switzerland's Stanilas Wawrinka in the second round.
