Former world number one Serena Williams has surged past Marion Bartoli 7-5, 6-1 to win the WTA Stanford crown, her first title in more than a year.
It's her first trophy since Wimbledon 2010, after a year plagued by injury and illness.
Even though her ranking has fallen to 169, Williams could be a contender at the last Grand Slam of the year, the US Open that starts in New York on August 29th.
Williams has already elected to use an injury-protected ranking to gain entry to the US Open main draw.
