KEY POINTS:
AUCKLAND - Dominik Hrbaty became the fourth seeded player to be knocked out of the Heineken Open men's tennis singles after losing in straight sets in the second round.
The Slovak, winner of the tournament in 2001 and 2005, was beaten 6-2 6-3 by Germany's Philipp Kohlschreiber.
The German will now play the winner of the match between top seed Tommy Robredo of Spain and his countryman Alberto Martin in a quarterfinal later today.
Meanwhile, seventh seed Agustin Calleri of Argentina is safely through to the quarterfinals, beating Florent Serra of France 6-4 6-1.
Some players are in for an exhausting day with both the second round and quarterfinals of the singles played today as organisers try to catch up after losing play on Tuesday due to rain.
Six singles players were also in the doubles and faced a possible three matches today, though one of them -- Hrbaty -- is now spared a third match following his loss to Kohlschreiber.
A total of 16 matches were scheduled for today.
