New Zealander Marina Erakovic and British partner Heather Watson were forced to withdraw from their first round doubles match at the US Open against sixth-seeded Russians Ekaterina Makarova and Elena Vesnina.
The Russians led 3-2 in the first set when Erakovic had difficulties with her back, which troubled her in her first-round singles loss at Flushing Meadows, and she retired hurt.
