Kiwi tennis number one Marina Erakovic has notched up one of her best Grand Slam results.
Erakovic has beaten 2004 US Open champion Svetlana Kuznetsova 3-6, 6-2, 7-6 in two hours and 19 minutes to reach the second round at Flushing Meadows for the first time.
After dropping the first set, Erakovic hit back in style in the second but was then broken early in the decider.
She broke back as Kuznetsova was serving for the match and then dominated the third set tiebreaker to take the match.
"I was hot out there and the rallies we had were quite physically demanding. I gave it my all. I just really like this match today it's something I'm happy about, I'm not sure where it rates, but it was good to win," said Erakovic.
