Marina Erakovic has advanced to the quarter-finals of the Pattaya Open in Thailand after another straight sets win, although the match took two days to complete because of rain.
The New Zealander, who is ranked 75th in the world, beat Thai wildcard Varatchaya Wongteanchai 6-3 7-6 and will now face German fifth seed and world No 52 Sabine Lisicki.
It will be a much needed boost of confidence for Erakovic after she was ousted in the first round of the Australian Open by Frenchwoman Alize Cornet and was also beaten in the first round of the doubles.
It is her first quarter-final appearance in a WTA event for Erakovic since the Budapest tournament in April last year. She was, however, unable to play any tournaments after last year's US Open because of injury.
Erakovic is using the Pattaya Open to prepare for the upcoming Fed Cup tournament in Kazakhstan.
