New Zealand tennis No 1 Marina Erakovic was knocked out of the US Open today after being beaten in the women's doubles quarterfinals in New York.
Erakovic and Croatia's Jelena Kostanic Tosic were trampled by the tournament's 10th seeds, American Lisa Raymond and Australian Samantha Stosur, beaten 7-6 6-0.
The pair's performance in the third round made Erakovic the first New Zealander to reach the quarterfinals at a Grand Slam event since Julie Richardson in the doubles at the Australian Open in 1994.
The 20-year-old, ranked No 52 in the world, was eliminated in the opening round of the singles.
The prizemoney from her first round loss and quarterfinals finish in the doubles take her tournament earnings for the year over US$200,000 ($287,645).
