New Zealand number one Marina Erakovic has made a strong start at the Family Circle Cup tournament defeating Daniela Hantuchova in the opening round.
Erakovic, ranked 62 in the world, advanced to the second round with a straight sets 7-6(2) 6-4 win over the former world number five.
Erakovic will face Australian and tournament third seed Samantha Stosur in the next round. The pair have clashed just once before, five years ago with Stosur winning in straight sets.
Last year Erakovic reached the third round at Charleston before falling to Serena Wiliams who is the current world No1 and top seed for this year's event.
