Marina Erakovic's run has come to an end at Wimbledon as the 28-year-old Kiwi was beaten this morning by 12th seed Carla Suarez Navarro of Spain in the third round.
Erakovic ranked at 149 in the world entering the tournament had won three rounds of qualifying and then had wins over American Irina Falconi and former world No.1 Jelena Jankovic, however Suarez Navarro was a different prospect.
The Spaniard won the match 6-2 6-2 in just over one hours play. She was able to capitalise on the Kiwis serve percentage dropping away from the previous day and was successful with six out of 12 break point opportunities.
Suarez Navarro managed 21 winners with 14 unforced errors while Erakovic hit 11 winners and had 27 unforced errors.
Despite the loss it is likely Erakovic will see her ranking improve to around 110 and it would have seen her win five consecutive matches in a row against quality opposition.
