Former world tennis No 1 Lindsay Davenport today confirmed she would be coming to New Zealand next month for the ASB Classic in Auckland.
The winner of three Grand Slam titles, Davenport returned to the WTA Tour in August, two month after the birth of her first child, son Jagger.
The 31-year-old American has won 53 singles events during a 15-year career, including the 1998 United States Open, 1999 Wimbledon championship and 2000 Australian Open.
She also took the singles gold medal in the 1996 Atlanta Olympics.
The Auckland tournament runs from December 31 to January 5.
Davenport's participation had been on the cards after she let slip in a blog on the WTA website last week that she planned to open her new season in Auckland before heading to the Australian Open.
The blog was later removed.
