KEY POINTS:
One of the biggest names in women's tennis over the past decade could be heading to Auckland at the end of next month.
A blog entry on the WTA website from former number one Lindsay Davenport had said that she planned to open her 2008 season in Auckland before heading to the Australian Open.
However, the entry has since been changed to say she will start "down under".
Tournament director Richard Palmer has confirmed they are chasing Davenport and said her signing would be a huge boost to the tournament as she would appeal to the tennis purist and general sports fans.
Palmer said it would be a huge coup if they can lure the three-time grand slam champion but at the moment they are playing the waiting game.
Davenport returned to the Tour earlier this year after taking time out for the birth of her first child.
