Caroline Wozniacki added another accomplishment to her lengthy resume today – just not the one she wanted.
The 27-year-old Dane can now lay claim to being the most successful player to never win the ASB Classic, after another Auckland tournament where she had plenty of success, but left without the ultimate prize she was gunning for.
Wozniacki again fell just short of victory today, losing her second Classic final to an inspired Julia Goerges, and continuing a curious Auckland trend.
On her five visits, Wozniacki has won an impressive 15 matches, but never the big one. She can claim two runner-up gongs, and has been knocked out in the semifinals once, and the quarter-finals twice.
Today, there was little she could do to stop Goerges, who played some exquisite tennis, serving excellently and assembling an exhibition of impressive winners.
