Ancic will face top seed and defending champion Fernando Gonzalez, of Chile, in the quarterfinals after Gonzalez's easy 6-1 6-4 win in 56 minutes over Czech qualifier Ivo Minar tonight.
Gonzalez was broken in the first game of the match before winning the next six in succession, closing out the set with four aces in the seventh game.
Gonzalez' serve was inconsistent, though, and he coughed up four double faults in the second game of the second set as he slipped 0-3 behind.
He ground his way back into the set to regain the lead at 5-3 before the two traded serve to end the match.
