Success for Kiwi over seeded players at Australian Open

New Zealand doubles specialist Marcus Daniell has continued his good form at the Australian Open in Melbourne with an upset second round victory over the sixth seeds including a big comeback in the second set.

Daniell and Brazilian Marcelo Demoliner took on Raven Klaasen (South Africa) and Rajeev Ram (United States) ranked 11 and 12 in the world respectively and scored a 6-1 7-6(4) win to go into the third round.

Daniell and Demoliner broke Klaasens serve in the fourth game to take a 3-1 lead in the first set and never looked back easily racing through the remaining three games.

The second set had the seeded duo up the ante and take a quick 5-2 lead, however the Kiwi and Brazilian combination ranked 53 and 67 respectively kept their composure and slowly but surely edged their way back into the game to force a tiebreak.

Even in the tiebreak they remained calm had maintained the lead throughout to take the set and the match seven points to four.

"With Artem (Sitak) we lost to these same guys last year in the first round of the Open so it was great to get back at them. We went out hot in the first set and destroyed them. It was great tennis. We knew they would come back and they had a break up on use early in the second and they got a little bit of luck and then we broke and got the luck before going in to the tie break where we played well. Overall a good match for us and weve improved a lot over the next couple of weeks. Weve changed sides as well and are working well together."

Daniell and Demoliner will now face the unseeded Australian team of Sam Groth, the worlds fastest server and 2.01m Chris Guccione.

"Its going to be a different match. They have some of the biggest serves in the world and will have the crowd with them. Ive played against them a number of times and know what to expect. Were returning really well so Id say we have the upper hand going in."
