Theres been more success for Kiwi tennis junior Finn Reynolds as the 17-year-old from the Hawkes Bay and his Portuguese doubles partner, Durate Vale have won through to the semifinals of the Australian Open Boys Doubles.
The pair defeated the unseeded pair of Siddhant Banthia (India) and Kaya Gore (Turkey) 6-2 7-5 in just 54 minutes. The Kiwi and Portuguese players were down 0-3 in the second set but staged a comeback thanks to some big serving, particularly from Vale who had earlier lost a tough three set match in singles
"We got a bit unlucky in the first game of the set and had chances played a couple of stupid errors and then lots a little bit of focus. We got broken but then came back and broke them, kept holding and stayed solid and my partner returned well. We played a really good first set really solid, especially after playing singles this morning to play doubles like that was great."
The left-handed Reynolds continued his praise of his doubles partner, especially considering it is their first tournament together. Vale has a current junior ranking of 16, while Reynolds is 104.
Well have good crowd support for usthey seem to like my partner as well. Its a great opportunity just taking it one match at a time and having a lot of fun. Were really enjoying teaming up together its working out really well."
