Kiwi beaten in held over doubles match at Wimbledon

Its an absolute heartbreaker for Kiwi tennis player Michael Venus and his Croatian doubles partner Mate Pavic after their third round contest at Wimbledon was lost in the fifth set 14-16 to third seeds Jamie Murray (Scotland) and Bruno Soares (Brazil).

The match had been suspended due to bad light the previous day at 3-6 6-7(3) 6-4 6-4 13-13 after four hours and 51 minutes.

The match was played for an additional 11 minutes this morning with four games completed and the third seeds beating the 16th seeded Kiwi and Croat combination in a total time of five hours and two minutes with an eventual score of 3-6 6-7(3) 6-4 6-4 14-16.

When the players returned to court 17 to try and complete the match both teams held serve to love to take the scores to 14-all. But then the third seeds held again before breaking in the 30th game on their first match point of the day.

Venus was aiming to be the first Kiwi male into a quarter-final of a Grand Slam since Brett Steven in the doubles in 1998 at Wimbledon with American Pat Galbraith.

It was the fifth time in his career that Venus had reached a third round of a Grand Slam.
