Auckland teenager Sebastian Lavie has won his first round match at the US Open junior tennis tournament, scoring a straight-set victory over Argentina's Renzo Olivio 7-5 6-1, his doubles partner.
Paris-based Lavie, 17, has made steady progress in 2009 reaching the second round of both Roland Garros, Wimbledon and now the US Open.
"I'm happy to get through," Lavie said.
"I think I can win the next one (round) and the next one and perhaps go all the way."
Lavie plays Tennys Sandgren from the United States in the second round tomorrow.
