Erakovic through to the semis

Kiwi tennis No.1 Marina Erakovic has made the semifinals of the US$125,000 WTA Taipei Open with a hard fought victory over Germanys Tatijana Maria.

Erakovic defeated Maria 6-4 7-6(4) in an hour and a half, with both players finishing with the same number of points overall, 133 at the completion of the match and similar stats throughout the contest, however Erakovic broke her opponents serve on one extra occasion.

The New Zealander will now faces 151st ranked Kai-Chen Chang from Taiwan for a place in the final.

The tournament is one of the better result for Erakovic in 2016. Her highlights have included qualifying at Wimbledon and reaching the third round. Making the final of the WTA tournament at Rabat, Morocco and the quarter-finals at the WTA event in Bol, Croatia.
