Australian TV network Channel 7 has come under fire for choosing to broadcast the private coaching notes of new Aussie golden girl Daria Gavrilova during her fourth round defeat on Sunday night.
The broadcaster displayed close-ups of notes prepared for the breakout star of the Open, affectionately known as "Dasha", twice during her defeat against 10th seed Carla Suarez Navarro.
The notes included typed out tactical instructions on how Gavrilova should play against Navarro. "If in rally situation look to keep ball her Bh (backhand) look for Fh's (forehands) then look (to play) it quick into her fh," one pointer read.
There were also messages of encouragement and advice on how to approach the game mentally. "This is exactly where should be so let it all happen", "trust your game" and "believe in yourself" were among the handwritten notes prepared for the game, which were also discussed by the commentators.
Viewers of the match compared Seven's decision to broadcast the notes to reading Gavrilova's personal diary or opening her mail. There was also a belief they could be used by future opponents against the newly-adopted Australian.
