New Zealand's Riki McLachlan won his first round singles match at the Australian Open junior tennis championships by beating Australian Andrew McLeod 4-6 6-4 6-4 yesterday.
The 17-year-old, plays out of Queenstown and is coached by former South African professional Lan Bale, will next face world No 22 and tournament 16th seed Cheng-Peng Hsieh, of Taiwan.
McLachlan is currently ranked at No 90.
His younger brother Ben, 16, lost his first round singles on Sunday, as did Canterbury's Jordan Kelly-Houston.
