Swimming: Van Welie fails to qualify for Olympics

There has been a major shock at the Olympic swimming trials in Auckland.

Commonwealth Games medallist Liz van Welie has not qualified for an individual event at Athens.

Van Welie's poor meet was capped off by a disappointing swim in the 200 metres individual medley on Saturday, finishing well outside the qualifying time.

She still has a glimmer of hope for a spot at the games however, if she performs well in the relays on Sunday.
