World youth champion Natalie Wiegersma has caused a big upset on the second night of finals at the New Zealand short course swimming championships in Dunedin.
16-year-old Wiegersma edged out record holder Helen Norfolk to win the 100 metre medley final.
There was just three-one hundredths of a second in the margin.
Backstroker Hannah McLean showed her versatility in winning the 50 metre butterfly in 27.55 seconds, with her North Shore team-mate Corney Swanepoel grabbing the men's final in 24.37 seconds, which was only four tenths of a second outside his national record.
Swanepoel also claimed the 100 metre freestyle title in 50.11 seconds.
Melissa Ingram impressed in winning the 800 metres freestyle in 8:45.23 while North Shore clubmate, Alison Fitch won the 100 metres in 55.65 seconds.
Other titles went to Daniel Ryan in the 400 metres individual medley, Cameron Stanley in the 200 metres backstroke, and Kelly Bentley in the 200 metres breaststroke.
In all, North Shore swimmers won six of the nine finals.
The meet finishes tomorrow.
