Two records fell at the national age-group swimming championships in Christchurch.
North Shore's Chloe Francis, 16, and Christchurch's Sophia Batchelor, 14, caught the eye of top Swimming New Zealand performance programme director Jan Cameron as they set national marks.
Francis clocked 4min 14.45sec to win the 15-16 years 400m freestyle.
It was 3sec faster than the previous record and 2.5sec outside the qualifying time for the Commonwealth Games.
Batchelor won the 13-14 years final in the 200m backstroke in 2min 14.15sec, nearly 3sec inside the old record and within 3sec of the Commonwealth Games qualifying time.
