There were no medals, but some national records for New Zealand in the pool at the world short course swimming championships in Shanghai.
Hannah McLean has picked up fourth in the women's 100 backstroke, despite qualifying as one of the fastest swimmers.
McLean set a new national record in the process.
Team coach Trevor Nicholls says McLean turned well and headed for home a clear third, but the field bunched up in the last five or six metres, and she was pipped for the bronze by point two of a second.
Dean Kent and Zoe Baker finished out of the medals in their favoured medley and breaststroke events respectively.
Baker was quick in qualifying but Nicholls says unfortunately she could not repeat in the final.
Georgina Toomey set a national mark in the semis of the 50 butterfly, but has missed out on the final.
The men's 200 freestyle relay team also set a national record, despite finishing last in their final.
