VICTORIA, Canada - American swimmers Michael Phelps and Brendan Hansen broke their own world records at the Pan Pacific championships today.
Phelps won his fifth gold medal of the meet in the 200m individual medley, his time of one minute 55.84 seconds beating his previous mark of 1min 55.94sec set three years ago.
Hansen lowered his own record in the 200m breaststroke, winning the event in 2min 08.50sec to eclipse his previous time of 2min 08.74sec.
"We make it look easy but it's really hard," Hansen said.
"A lot of hard work went in to that."
