Mary Fisher and Sophie Pascoe enjoyed a dream first day at the 2013 IPC swimming world championships in Montreal as they both claimed gold and Pascoe topping it off with a new world record.
Sophie Pascoe won the women's 100m freestyle S10 to claim her second world title and did it in a world record time of 1:00.15 ahead of France's Elodie Lorandi (1:00.47) and 17 year-old Canadian Aurelie Rivard.
Pascoe won six medals at last year's Paralympics (three golds, three silver) and is also competing in the SB9 100m breaststroke, S10 100m butterfly, backstroke and 50m freestyle at the world championships.
Mary Fisher won New Zealand's first gold in Montreal when she won the 100m backstroke S11 _ the event she claimed silver at last year's Paralympic Games _ in a time of 1:20.31.
Fisher is back in action today in the S11 women's 50m freestyle along with Daniel Sharp (SB13 men's 100m breaststroke) and Jesse Reynolds (SM9 men's 200 individual medley).
