New Zealand swimmers Lauren Boyle and Glenn Snyders again set records in heats on day three of the world swimming championships in Shanghai today.
Snyders, 24, broke his own New Zealand record to be sixth fastest in heats of the men's 50m breaststroke. The North Shore club swimmer, coached by Mark Regan, clocked 27.52 seconds in the heats to take 15/100ths of a second off his national record set at the last year's Commonwealth Games.
He was only 33/100ths of a second away from top qualifier Felipe Franca Da Silva of Brazil, the gold medallist at the Pan Pacific Championships.
Snyders moves comfortably through to the semifinals tonight where he will be looking to qualify for his first final and follows his national record in the heats of the 100m breaststroke on the opening day.
Boyle broke the national record in qualifying eighth fastest in the women's 200m freestyle to advance to the semifinals.
The 23 year old recorded 1min 57.72sec which took more than half a second off Melissa Ingram's previous New Zealand record (1min 58.32sec), set fully suited in 2009 and almost a second off Boyle's previous best.
Boyle showed outstanding back-end strength to zoom home in the final 50m under 30 seconds, the second fastest over the last length.
In other swims Taranaki's Dylan Dunlop-Barrett was 34th in heats of the 800m in 8min 13.06sec, which is well down on the national record he set at the trials.

Women 200m freestyle: Lauren Boyle 1:57.72, 8 (NZ Record)
