Executive director of Swimming New Zealand (SNZ) Catriona McBean has resigned after a week of speculation that she would quit following complaints against her.
"After four years leading swimming in New Zealand, I am taking the opportunity to further my career aspirations and I am looking to continue to challenge and excel myself in a similar way as I have been asking of our swimmers over this time," she said in a statement today.
McBean joined SNZ in 2000 and has been instrumental in the development if its governance and management policy, a revitalised competition and high performance structure and building a strong national sporting organisation, SNZ said.
"During her tenure Catriona has taken Swimming New Zealand from strength to strength and we are sorry to see her leave," SNZ President John West said.
"Catriona is not leaving the organisation without further challenges. We are in the process of developing our next four-year strategic plan, the foundations of which she has been directly involved with over the last six months."
