KEY POINTS:
BRISBANE - In an era dominated by space-age designed swimsuits, Sophie Edington was always going to catch the eye in her itsy bitsy pink bikini.
The Commonwealth Games champion opted to race in a two-piece tonight in the 50m semi-finals in order to "have a bit of fun".
After the disappointment of missing out in the 100m last night, the Gold Coast-based swimmer decided she would show off her own designed swimwear called Fab Swimwear on national television.
"Definitely I did not get the result I wanted but that probably had a bit to do with the preparation I had, it was not great, so I wanted to come out tonight and have a bit of fun," she said.
"I train pretty much in it all year around in an outdoor pool and I feel very comfortable in it."
Edington said she didn't feel too subconscious before the race at national titles as she kept her tracksuit on until just before stepping on the blocks.
"I told one girl in my race but otherwise I would have felt too nervous about it, you have got to have a bit of fun," she said.
The outfit barely affected her performance as she qualified second fastest for tomorrow night's final behind Tay Zimmer.
Would she pull it out again for the final?
"Probably not in the final, just tonight a for bit of a laugh."
