American-based backstroker Corey Main is into the semifinals of the 200m at the world swimming championships in Kazan, Russia.
The Aucklander produced a season best time of 1min 58.22s, eclipsing his fastest time by 1.41s, to be 14th quickest overall and take his place in the semis in a few hours' time.
Main was fourth best in his heat, which was won by China's Xu Jiayu, who was fifth overall in 1:56.90.
The fastest into the semifinals was Australian Mitchell Larkin, who clocked 1:55.88.
Glenn Snyders, in his less fancied 200m breaststroke, actually won his heat tonight but finished 23rd overall, and outside the top 16 so missed the semifinals.
