Swimming New Zealand will shortly begin a significant review of the sport, having received the backing of the sport's membership at its delayed annual meeting.
The review, to be compiled by a working committee of eight chaired by New Zealand Cricket chairman Chris Moller and overseen by a steering committee, will cover all aspects of the sport and work out a sustainable organisational model.
It will not affect SNZ's plans for next year's London Olympics. New Zealand has swimmers ranked inside the top 20 in 10 events and in the top 10 in four disciplines including breaststroker Glenn Snyders and freestyler Lauren Boyle in two disciplines each, backstroker Gareth Kean and the women's 4x200m freestyle relay team.
A first draft of the review is to be finished by mid-April with any recommendations to be considered by a special general meeting next July.
"Obviously there's been disagreement within the membership of Swimming New Zealand on the appropriate governance and delivery of the sport," SNZ chairman Ross Butler said yesterday.
