KEY POINTS:
Illness has forced Commonwealth Games medallist Lauren Boyle to withdraw from the swim trials.
Boyle, 18, has a severe bronchial complaint and has withdrawn on the advice of the Swimming New Zealand medical team.
The Auckland freestyler last week developed the complaint diagnosed as an allergic reaction to inhaled chemicals - a result of the elevated levels of gases in the air above the water at the West Wave Aquatic Centre when she was training at the pool.
Boyle is expected to be allowed back into training next week and it was felt prudent to withdraw her from the championships.
"On medical advice I have withdrawn from the meet and I'm very disappointed to miss the opportunity to compete and qualify for the World Championships," Boyle said.
Her withdrawal does not automatically rule her out of the 2007 World Championships in Melbourne because the selection criteria permits the selectors to consider Boyle's best performance this year at either the Pan Pacific championships or Commonwealth Games.
If they take her best 200m freestyle time, then this added to the times of the three best finishers in last night's relay could qualify a 4x200m relay team to the championships in March.
