Aucklander Daniel Bell claimed a bronze medal in the men's 100m freestyle on the second day of the junior Pan Pacific swimming championships in Guam last night.
Following his gold in his chosen 100m backstroke on the opening night, the 18-year-old underlined his prodigious talent.
He qualified easily for the final and set a new national age group mark with a brilliant 50.59 seconds in the final, nearly 0.7sec inside his own previous record.
Wellington's Samantha Lucie-Smith and North Shore's Mitchell Donaldson were the only other swimmers to qualify for an A final.
Smith, 17, finished eighth in the 400m individual medley in 5min 00.30sec while Donaldson, 16, was sixth in the same event in 4min 25.87sec.
The menb s 800m freestyle relay team were fifth in the final in a solid 7min 37.79sec and are fourth overall on points after two days while the women were sixth in 8min 25.09sec and are sixth overall.
