Auckland swimmers claimed seven open national short-course (25m pool) records in winning the lion's share of titles at the national winter championships in Wanganui, while North Shore were virtually unchallenged as the top club.
Dean Kent won five titles, with his record 4m 16.19s in the 400m medley the best performance of the meet, well inside Olympic qualification for the long-course (50m pool) equivalent.
In addition to winning the 100m and 200m medleys, Kent surprised by scoring narrow wins over Steven Ferguson (North Shore) in the 100m and 200m breaststroke.
Mt Eden's Diane Bui-Duyet set national records in all three of her title swims - 50m butterfly (27.70s), 100m butterfly (1m 0.75s) and 50m backstroke (29.12s).
Nicholas Sheeran (North Shore) impressed by breaking the long-standing Auckland open record of 54.04s set by Olympian Anthony Mosse in 1989, when he clocked 53.80s for a runaway victory in the 100m butterfly.
Sheeran also won the 50m and 200m butterfly, as well as the 100m and 200m freestyle titles.
Team-mate Scott TalbotCameron scooped the men's three backstroke events, and Jolie Workman made a clean sweep of the three women's breaststroke events, as well as winning the 100m medley.
