Canterbury freestyler Matthew Hutchins has become the second New Zealand swimmer to produce a Rio Olympic qualifying time at the Canadian trials in Toronto.
Backstroker Corey Main dipped beneath the Fina A standard for the 100m a day ago; now Hutchins has done the same in the 400m freestyle.
Racing in the heats, Hutchins clocked 3min 49.84s which is more than half a second inside the A standard.
Hutchins is on a scholarship at the University of Wisconsin. The Canadian trials are the second chance for New Zealand swimmers to produce Rio qualifying times.
