Competition in the Quiksilver Pro on the Gold Coast was postponed yesterday because of a tsunami warning and the surfing contest's site at Snapper Rocks was evacuated.
Contest director Rod Brooks says all competition was cancelled for the day, even though surf conditions are perfect.
The alert followed a massive 8.8 magnitude earthquake which struck off the coast of Chile, toppling buildings, cutting power and killing at least 147 people.
