Coolangatta's Joel Parkinson has taken out surfing's season-opening Quiksilver Pro on the Gold Coast in a dominant final performance over Adriano de Souza.
The home favourite tamed Kirra Beach's three-metre barrels - whipped up by Cyclone Hamish - to take victory over the young Brazilian and start the year with the world No 1 tag.
