Six New Zealand competitors advanced after the opening round of the world junior surfing championships in the United States yesterday.
Under-18 girls Mischa Davis, Airini Mason, and Paige Hareb notched wins in their first heats at Huntington Beach in California, with Jess Santorik finishing second behind Mason to also progress.
Two of New Zealand's four under-18 boys also booked their passage to the second round, with Morehu Roberts and Richard Christie winning their first-round heats.
Dean Amess and Keirin Van Der Helder lost their opening heats and will contest the repechage rounds.
