Australian surfer Trent Munro beat world champion Andy Irons, of Hawaii, in the final to win the world championship tour event at Woolamai Beach yesterday.
Munro managed an 8.57 and an 8.00 in his two counted waves to edge out Irons and claim the Rip Curl Pro title.
Irons needed a 9.00 to win in the dying minutes but couldn't match Munro with his final ride.
The victory elevates Munro to No 1 in the world rankings after two rounds of the world championship.
