KEY POINTS:
A Taranaki teenager created kiwi surfing history in Sydney yesterday.
17 year old Paige Hareb took second place in the Junior Women's World Championship event.
Hareb was entered as a wildcard into the event, but fought off stiff competition to make the final. She eventually lost the final to Sally Fitzgibbons of New South Wales.
Hareb's performance marked the best of a New Zealand female surfer in the history of the junior world championships, her runner-up result earning her US$3400.
