KEY POINTS:
After missing the National Championships less than a month ago, Gisborne's Bobby Hansen won the final of the season to take out the Corona Pro at Mount Maunganui on Sunday.
The win makes it two in a row for Hansen after he won the first event of the Corona Crown Series held at his home break of Gisborne back in November.
Jessica Santorik won the women's division after also winning the first event of the season.
Hansen posted 15.0 points in the final, pipping second-placed surfer Gauranga Ormond by a mere 0.10 points.
"That was some of the worst surf I have had to compete in but I knew everyone was in the same boat so I had to stay positive," said Hansen immediately after the final. "It was really hard work out there just to get going".
Jessica Santorik of Raglan extended her already significant lead on the Corona Crown Series after three of six events by winning the Open Women's Division today.
"I'm stoked. Last year I didn't even make a heat at this event so it is a good turnaround," said Santorik.
The Corona Pro was the third of six events on the 2008/09 Corona Crown Series.
