Surfing: Champs delayed a day

New Zealand surfing fans must wait another day for the start of the women's world championship tour event in Taranaki after a lay day was called yesterday.

Small waves of 0.5m off Fitzroy Beach prompted organisers to postpone the opening round until at least today.

New Zealander Paige Hareb is scheduled to compete in the first round against heat opponents Melanie Bartels of Hawaii and Lee Ann Curren of France.
