Surfing: A small step to surf star

Life doesn't get any better for a keen grommet like Ethan Jacob, 6, than getting a Jandal signed by world and New Zealand surfing champions.

He's pictured with (from left) international team members Andy Irons and brother Bruce, and home-grown surfers Daniel Kereopa and Maz Quinn. They were in the Queen St, Auckland, store of sponsor Vodafone yesterday before heading to the Surf Sessions competition at Piha from 11am to 3pm today.

Surfers will be competing in two heats, each with two Kiwis and two internationals. The competition will end with a New Zealand v The World tag team event.
