Supershorts trawls the best of Daily Shorts to wrap up the week in oddities.
English amateur Matthew Fitzpatrick experienced the less flexible side of Augusta when his caddie was excluded for wanting to wear sandals. Regular bagman Lorne Duncan cannot wear shoes because of a foot condition but Masters rules dictate no sandals and Fitzpatrick, 19, was forced to find a new caddie for the week. Duncan vented his frustration on Twitter, saying: "Apparently aesthetics are more important than people. I told TD [tournament director] he was pathetic. I hate the place."
He couldn't do worse
Black Cap Jimmy Neesham has suggested a new role for Matt Elliott at the Warriors. As a player.
I'm assuming Matt Elliot caught a ball without dropping it at training. They have to sack him as coach before they can sign him as a player.
Italians at it as well
Still on Elliott, there is hope for him yet. Italian Serie A side Catania sacked the same coach for a second time this season. The cellar dwellers fired - or did he resign? - Rolandro Maran yesterday after earlier giving him the sack in October following a poor start to the season. He was reinstated in January only to be axed again after the side's 2-1 loss to Torino in the weekend.
Maran has a lot of catching up to do with former Yankees manager Billy Martin. He was hired and fired by the New York baseball club five times. When he died on Christmas Day, 1989, he was preparing to take the reins of the Yankees again for the 1990 season.
Daly cuts back the Coke
Everyone's favourite loose cannon golfer John Daly revealed to the Guardian he is home-schooling his son John jnr.
Let's see how that one works out. Daly, who still smokes 40 cigarettes a day, said he's cut down his diet Coke habit from 26 to 28 cans a day to "10 to 12 at the most", instantly ruling him out of the time-honoured can-a-hole golf challenge (some would say, can-a-hole is the only thing that makes the sport interesting.
"If I don't have ice, I can't drink it. I can't have it straight because of the carbonation.
"I have to drink it slowly and not out of a can, I need some ice," he said, rather cryptically.
