There was another good turnout of competitors for Race 6 of the State Beach Series on Tuesday night.
A high tide and a 10-15 knot norwester made for calm seas and enjoyable swimming and paddling conditions.
Jackson Cropp knotched up his second win of the season, covering the 1.5km swim in a smart time of 16mins 47secs, a comfortable 26 seconds ahead of Sean Newcombe with Jake McPhee back in third place. It was only the second time the race has been swum over the longer distance this season.
The women's race is turning into a real thriller between Kirsty Wannan, a member of the NZ Surf Lifesaving team and Brenda Russell. Wannan crossed the line six seconds ahead of Russell with another 36" back to Nicole Rosewarne.
Nick Sutherland ran strongly to lead the men's field home in the 5km beach run, 37 seconds ahead of James Rimmer while Tara La Grange blitzed the womens field, striding home nearly three minutes ahead of her nearest rival. La Grange has now made a clean sweep in the six races. Jesse Eichmann ran in second ahead of Abby Middleton.
