New Zealand's Jaclyn Hawkes produced a shock result to advance to the second round at the world squash championships in England today.
Hawkes eliminated 10th seed Vanessa Atkinson, of the Netherlands, in a five-game thriller 11-9 11-7 8-11 10-12 11-5.
She joined compatriot Shelley Kitchen, the sixth seed, in the next round at Manchester.
Kitchen advanced after beating Malaysia's Delia Arnold 11-7 11-7 11-4.
Another New Zealander, Louise Crome, had the misfortune to draw second seed Rachael Grinham in the opening round.
She kept the Australian on court for just 22 minutes before going down in straight games 7-11 6-11 2-11.
New Zealand's involvement in the men's competition ended with a second-round defeat for Kashif Shuja.
Shuja went down 11-8 1-11 5-11 5-11 to Englishman Alister Walker after beating 11th seeded Malaysian Mohd Azlan Iskander in the first round yesterday.
