New Zealand's Carol Owens, the second-seeded former world squash champion, became the biggest women's casualty at the British Open when she suffered a straight-games loss in the quarter-finals yesterday.
Her conqueror was Tania Bailey, the 22-year-old former world junior champion, whose career was threatened by a long-term knee injury.
Bailey's 9-2, 9-7, 9-2 win was the best success of her career.
The Englishwoman, who was sidelined for eight months with injury and has been back for only nine weeks, made a flying start.
The upset guaranteed an English finalist. Bailey now plays Cassie Campion, the former world champion, who also won in straight games, 9-4, 10-9, 9-4, against Australian Rachael Grinham.
