New Zealander Shelly Kitchen's first start as world women's No 11 has ended in defeat, losing her first-round match in Kuwait to Malaysian Nicol David.
The New Zealand No 1 said a recent dose of the flu contributed to her 8-10, 3-9, 5-9 loss in 35 minutes to the world No 4.
Kitchen's next tournament is the the Texas Open, starting on April 5.
