Kiwi number one ranked squash player Joelle King has fallen in the quarterfinals of the British Open in her first major tournament since returning from injury.
King, who ruptured her Achilles tendon 10 months ago, put in a solid display at the Airco Arena in Hull, winning her first two contests before falling overnight.
The former world number four was ranked 10th for the tournament, and accounted for American qualifier Sabrina Sobhy in the first round, 11-8, 11-9, 11-4, before beating wildcard Victoria Lust 11-5, 11-7, 11/2 in her second round contest.
However, an encounter against current world number four and third seeded Brit Laura Massaro proved to be too difficult, with King going down 11-6, 11-2, 11-7 in 33 minutes on court.
Massaro, winner of the tournament in 2013 and beaten finalist last year, then beat the number one ranked Nicol David to advance to the final against sixth seeded Frenchwoman Camille Serme.
